The poll, by Louis Harris and Associates, was designed to plumb attitudes towards crime and courts and antisocial behavior. It was taken for the Utah Law Enforcement Planning Agency. Taking note of the Mormon church's great influence in the state, the poll asked questions about attitudes toward the Church, and then examined public attitudes toward Negroes. "Do you believe there is a black conspiracy to destroy the Mormon church?" was one question. One out of three Mormons answered, "yes." Among Mormons, 55 percent disbelieved the proposition and among non-Mormons, 65 percent disbelieved.
