The work of the Lord must go forward and those who fight against it "will find disillusionment and misery," warned President Spencer W. Kimball in the opening general session of the South Africa area conference Oct. 24.

Talking on the theme "Kicking Against the Pricks," President Kimball said, "The works, designs and progress of God cannot be frustrated, neither can they come of naught."

President Kimball was one of five general authorities attending the area conference here and speaking to the saints who come from South Africa, Rhodesia an drouth West Africa.

President Kimball defined "kicking against the price" as meaning those "who stifle and smother the convictions of the conscience, who rebel against God's truths and laws, who quarrel with His providence and who persecute and oppose His ministers."

He cited several examples of people in history who have reaped sorrow because they have done just that, including Oliver Cowdery.

"Oliver Cowdery, man of rare ability, fought the Lord and his conscience, stifled his best impulse and finally, when his earthly powers were nearly at the end, his influence in the world was largely terminated," President Kimball continued.
