A Detroit attorney said he would file a $1.1 million dollar suit today in Cheyenne asking reinstatement of 14 Negro football players dismissed from the University of Wyoming football team for taking part in a demonstration. William Waterman, acknowledged as a civil rights lawyer, said the $1.1 million figure represents potential future earnings for the 14 players. He said the players were denied their civil rights after they were dropped from the squad and their scholarships suspended. The 14 players were dismissed by Wyoming coach Lloyd Eaton after they wore black arm bands to protest what they said were racist policies of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). The move came just prior to a Wyoming football game with Brigham Young University, which is run by the Mormon Church.
