In the Bible Noah says, "Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren" (Genesis 9:25). The JST adds, "and a veil of darkness shall cover him [Canaan], that he shall be known among all men." This appears to be a reference to the darkness that came upon the Canaanites (see Moses 7:8). This is generally assumed to be skin coloring. Here Abraham makes it clear that this curse also included a loss of the right to bear the priesthood.
