A01: Hottentots

The inhabitants of this province speak languages of the Central branch of the Bushman subfamily of the Khosian linguistic family. They formerly extended eastward around the Cape of Good Hope to the vicinity of Port Elizabeth, but these Cape Hottentots became detribalized in contact with the Dutch settlers after 1652, mixing with the latter and with slaves brought by them from Indonesia to form the hybrid population known today as the Cape Coloured.
