James Allen Scott describes details of the large assembly room for dedication services on the first floor of the Nauvoo Temple.
James Allen Scott. Journal, May 1, 1846, MS 1398, Church History Library
Friday May 1st Went to the Temple. Services commenced by the choir singing a hymn. The most enchanting music being a combination of Vocal and Instrumental — listened with peculiar feelings being seated in a house built by the express order of & being about to be dedicated to God. differing from all others, in this world . . .
[illegible] with a single exception the only one built—by order of Jehovah Different also in construction. When I looked to East I beheld the four seats for the four presidents of the M. P. on wall directly over the Prests of the Church Seats were inscribed these words.. "The Lord has beheld our Sacrifice: Come after us.." On the West were seats for the Aronic P. & the Choir. with superscriptions over each significant of the grade of the incumbents [?]. Prayer by Elder Woodruff.
The assembly room and the pulpits were located on the first floor of the Nauvoo Temple.
