Joseph was born into a family tradition of wisdom divination. Coming out of this background, he learned to use a divining rod. After becoming a rodsman, he then progressed to village seer. Finally, he attained prophethood. With each step, Joseph moved further from mechanical divination and closer to ecstatic revelation.
