Denver Snuffer argues that knowledge rather than priesthood prepares one for the Second Comforter.
Denver C. Snuffer, The Second Comforter: Conversing with the Lord Through the Veil (Salt Lake City: Mill Creek Press, 2008) 366, 371-372, 381, 405
The temple … is a tool intended to bind generations temple. Used for that purpose it can free up greats amounts of spiritual insight and power. (p. 366)
[After citing Doctrine and Covenants 84:19–22:] These verses do not say that the key to this [p. 371] knowledge requires a person to hold this priesthood. Rather, they say this priesthood is required to obtain the ordinances, and it is the ordinances which prepare people for the power of godliness, receiving mysteries, and seeing the face of God. Anyone who has received these ordinances has the foundation for these things in their lives. It is a false notion that these things are confined to priesthood holders, even though thoughtless people do sometimes assert this notion. Men and women both receive Temple rites, and are equally entitled ot the benefits the rites confer. [p. 372]
The Temple rites are intended themselves to be a revelation. They reveal much about God if you are willing to receive it. … Receive them as you would receive a visitation from God Himself. Then, when you have the eyes to see these things through faith, you are finally ready too receive the Second Comforter and the comfort coming from that experience; which will leave you with calmness and indescribable peacefulness [ p. 381].
Christ lives and comforts His followers today, just as He promised and did anciently. He is the Second Comforter. I know He lives, for I have seen Him. He has ministered to me. [p. 405]
