PROGRESS OF MORMONISM.

(From the San Francisco Herald.)

San Diego, January 10, 1853. We were last week favored with a deputation of "Elders" belonging to "the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." One of them was kind enough to present me with a copy of the Deseret News, Extra, containing the proceedings of a conference held at Great Salt Lake City in August last. . . .

On the 29th of August, Professor Orson Pratt addressed the brethren and sisters:— . . .

He then goes on to prove, by reading from the Book of Abraham, translated from the Egyptian papyrus by the Prophet Joseph Smith, that Joe was a veritable descendant of Abraham, and as such endowed with peculiar rights and privileges by the Almighty; . . .
