Many who joined the church in the beginning found fault with Joseph Smith and turned away from him and the work of God. Certain apostates claim all those who have left the Church is connected with them. They are right. There are only two churches. One is the Church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the Church of the devil. Oliver Cowdery one of the witnesses to the Book of Mormon left the Church and ways away about 10 years, but he always maintained his first testimony that God has sent an angel and revealed to him that the book was true. He returned, was baptised and ordained again went to visit his friends in Missouri, and died. Now Martin Harris has returned to us. Neither of the witnesses have ever denied their testimony, and I hope before the other witnesses breathes his last that he also will come here and give the people his testimony. Few of the people here, comparatively, were acquainted with Joseph Smith, and it will not be long before you will have to hunt for a man who knew him in the flesh, for we shall one by one pass away. I knew him and testified that he was a great prophet and a good man as ever lived in the flesh, Jesus excepted. He lived and died faithful and gave up his live for his brethren. Bro. Taylor, who spoke to us this morning, was with him and had the flesh shot from his hips and back. I do not expect to see such days again. We have the privilege now of meeting together in peace to preach and pray and carry on the work of God, and I expect we shall continue to do so and send forth the word of the Lord until the world is revolutionized and the earth prepared for the inheritance of the Saints.
