Kirtland, March 13th, 1838.

Sir—Yours of Feb. 26th was put into my hands this morning, by the Post Master of this place, requesting me to state some facts in relation to the subjects of your inquiries, which I cheerfully do, as it is a matter of no small moment to those interested. . . . Martin Harris, one of the witnesses to the book of Mormon, told me and others a few days since, that he never saw the plates with his natural eyes, but in a vision. He also said that Joseph, nor any other man, ever saw them in any other way.
