Dear Sir Your letter of January I5th has been referred to Dr. I. M. Casanowicz, of the Division of Historic Archaeology, who states that the characters regarding which you make inquiry are neither Egyptian nor Chaldaic, Assyrian nor Arabic ; and they have not been found on any American monument or manuscript. The slip on which the 'characters are represented is re turned herewith. Very respectfully yours,
