Some critics have pointed out that the Prophet spoke of the visit of angels in connection with his First Vision. Some have theorized that he began by asserting that he saw an angel and ended by embellishing it with the claim that he saw the Father and the Son. The truth is that, having described all that we are familiar with about the visitation of the Father and the Son, he says in the 1835 account, “I saw many angels in this vision.” It is an enforced either-or to say that he either saw the Father and the Son or saw angels. What he saw was both.
