The author, not being then in Utah, presents to the reader a graphic sketch–never before published–from the pen of an eye-witness, then and now a resident of Salt Lake City: (292) [. . . ]

"'I would advise some of you men here,' said Jeddy [Jedediah M. Grant] on one occasion, to go to President Young and confess your sins, and ask him to take you outside the city and have your blood shed to atone for your sins.' (294)
