Each person should answer the question for themselves about how the Latter-day Saints’ current standing before the Lord seems to them. Even if you give the most optimistic assessment of the restoration and current condition of the church, it can do nothing for the individual Latter-day Saint. We must all find salvation for ourselves. Each person must get their own covenant, their own promise of election directly from God, or find themself departing this life uncertain of their eternal state. When the promise of salvation is given by the Lord directly to an individual, he can know for certain his standing. It appears from the explanations given in scripture that we must choose between relying on the arm of the flesh and promises given by men, and the word of God spoken directly to us.
