BHR Staff Commentary

"mp" stands for "mission president." Orson D. Romney was the New Zealand mission president at the time and had written regarding a young woman in New Zealand using a seer stone. Gibbs's letter was the response.

The letter's full citation is George F. Gibbs, letter to Orson D. Romney, June 20, 1911, FPL. Jonathan A. Stapley quotes and cites a CHL-verified transcript of the letter in The Power of Godliness: Mormon Liturgy and Cosmology (New York: Oxford University Press, 2018), 115, 170.
