It is, or rather out to be, well known to all the saints in the church, that the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not acknowledge but one Prophet or law-giver to the church at one and the same time, and that the church is commanded not to receive as revelation or commandments any teachings but those given through him whom God has appointed. The lessor or minor authorities are only authorized to teach those revelations and commandments that come through the sources referred to above. From the beginning of this church until now it has been more or less annoyed with a certain class of men under some grade of priesthood or other, who have over reached the duties devolving on them, and have laid many stumbling blocks in the way of many inquiring minds by pretending to preach things which have been (they say) revealed to them.—We have so often and repeatedly been put under the necessity of removing those stumbling blocks referred to above, that our patience is worn almost tread bare.

No longer since than last Sunday, the 3d inst., we heard a certain elder say "that it has been revealed to him that dominion would be given to the saints, as a kingdom, within two years." Now we wish to say that the elder, and all others, that we feel it our imperative duty to "sharply rebuke" such a course of conduct, and also to say we do not believe his declaration to be true. And why? 1st. Because he is not the proper authority through whom God should "reveal" to the church so important and sudden event. 2d. We do not believe the saints will possess the "dominion of the kingdom of God" until the "setting" of Adam, "the ancient of days," and the "house of Jacob shall possess their possessions." Read Dan. vii. 9 to 27 inclusive. Also, Obadiah 17 to 21 inclusive.

It is a great impropriety in the character of an elder to step out of the range of the word of the Lord, already made public. When the Lord makes bare his arm in the literal gathering of the Jews to Jerusalem and brings Israel from the "north country," and the house of Joseph as a mass receive the gospel, then let the saints begin to look for the sudden advent of the ancient of days, and the saints to possess the "dominion" of the kingdom of God.

JOHN E. PAGE,

Pres. of the Twelve.
