Bruce McConkie (p. 7 of Fig. #28):

“. . . Nephi said: ‘all those who preach false doctrine . . . shall be thrust down to hell’! This clearly means that people who teach false doctrine in the fundamental and basic things will lose their souls. The nature and kind of being that God is, is one of these fundamentals. I repeat: Brigham Young erred in some of his statements on the nature and kind of being that God is and as to the position of Adam in the plan of salvation.”

Question #197: Did Brigham Young error on a “fundamental and basic doctrine” according to Mr. McConkie?

Yes

No

Question #198: (Refer to p. 4 of Fig. #28) How can “utterly absurd” and “totally false” be in the Church’s literature?

Brigham Young:

“how much unbelief exists in the minds of the Latter-day Saints in regard to one particular doctrine which I revealed to them, and which God revealed to me--namely that Adam is our father and God. . . (Fig. #16)

Bruce McConkie (p.6 of Fig. #28):

“Prophets . . . sometimes err in doctrine [and] give personal views which are not endorsed and approved by the Lord.”

Question #199: According to Brigham Young, was his “doctrine which God revealed” a “person view not endorsed and approved by the Lord”?

Yes

No

Bruce McConkie (pp. 4 & 6 of Fig. #28):

“False religion always results form the worship of false gods. . . . There are those who . . . acclaim Adam . . . as their Supreme Being . . .Yes, President Young did teach that Adam was the father of our spirits. . . .This, however, is not true.”

Question #200: According to the above logic, did Brigham Young worship a false god?

Yes

No

Bruce McConkie (pp. 6-7 of Fig. #28):

I think you give me credit for having a knowledge of the quotations from Brigham Young relative to Adam, and of knowing what he taught under the subject that has become known as the Adam God Theory. . . that is something he will have to account for. . . If that belief [in false doctrine] is on basic and fundamental things, it will lead us astray and we will lose our souls . . . The nature and kind of being that God is, is one of these fundamentals. I repeat: Brigham Young erred . . . on the nature and kind of being that God is . . .

Question #201: Could Brigham Young be a true prophet since he “erred on a fundamental” that would cost his followers their souls if they believed it?

Yes: Explain

No

President Wilford Woodruff:

“I say to Israel, the Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of the Church to lead you astray. It is not in the program. . . . It is not in the mind of God.” (The Discourses of Wilford Woodruff, pp. 212-213 as quoted by Ezra Taft Benson in “Following the Brethren,” speech, February 26, 1980, p. 5 of typed copy)

Brigham Young:

“Do you think the Lord will allow you to be fooled and led astray? No.” (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 9, p. 141)

Question #202: can you explain how Brigham Young taught “totally false” doctrine on a “basic and fundamental thing” which would “lead astray” if a Church President cannot “lead astray”?
